2012 AUDI Q5 HYBRID QUATTRO!
2012 Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro
Here is an SUV that has just seen the light of the day in Geneva and will arrive to Gandhiland pretty soon. Audi India surprised us last month by pulling off a cat out of the bag in the form of a cheaper Audi Q5 2.0 TDI to take on the likes of the soon-to-be-launched 2011 BMW X3. Now, we have another salvo that Audi India will fire soon in India courtesy the Indian government, which has made life easier for hybrid cars to enter India by slashing import duties. At the ongoing 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Audi has pulled the wraps off the 2012 Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro.

The Q5 Hybrid which the German automaker describes as a crossover SUV having the power of a V6 with the efficiency of a four potter engine, will feature a 2 liter TFSI petrol engine allied to an electric motor running on an lithium ion battery stack. The 2 liter petrol engine will produce about 208 Bhp and 350 Nm of torque while the electric motor is good for 44 Bhp and 210 Nm of torque. So in combined mode, the Audi Q5 will have up to 252 Bhp and a whopping 560 Nm of twist force which could make the bid Audi a very frantic customer when your right foot commands it to.

A nought to hundred dash will be dispatched in 7.1 second with the 80-120 kph roll on taking a blazingly quick 5.9 seconds. This is where all that torque from the electric motor comes in I guess. An eight speed automatic will convert all this power and torque into forward and reverse motion through all four wheels, and if you have the cojones for, even some sideways action. On it’s own, the electric motor can power the car up to 3 kilometers at a speed of about 60 kph with the top speed of a 100 kph in all electric mode.

The range appears pretty abysmal but then, the electric motor being designed to supplement rather than take over the duties of the petrol TFSI motor cannot be faulted, really. Audi claims a mileage of 14.5 kmpl for the Q5 Hybrid which is phenomenal to say the least. In India though, expect this number to be in the rage of 11-12 kmpl, which is still pretty remarkable for a vehicle the size and weight of the Q5. Oh yes, according to reliable sources, the Audi Q5 is heading to India and will be available sometime between late 2011 and early 2012. Pricing details remain unknown at the moment though we’d be updating this space with the pricing pretty soon. So, do check back soon.
